Indiana coal-fired power plant to close in 2015

Hoosier Energy Rural Electric Co-op plans to retire its 250 MW Ratts coal-fired power plant in Indiana in 2015, according to Platts. The co-op cited costs associated with U.S. Environmental Protection Agency regulations as the reason behind the closure, the article said.

The co-op reportedly reached the decision after analyzing the impact of EPA rules, the article said. The plant is one of two baseload coal units owned and operated by Hoosier. The other is the 1,070 MW Merom power plant.
