First Solar names new CEO and CTO

First Solar (NASDAQ: FSLR) named James Hughes as the new chief executive officer, replacing Mike Ahearn, who served as interim CEO and will continue with the company as chairman of the board.

Hughes was the chief commercial officer with First Solar. Before joining the company, he was the CEO of AEI.

Hughes earned a juris doctorate degree from the University of Texas at Austin School of Law and a bachelor’s degree in business administration from Southern Methodist University. He also received a Certificate of Completion in international business law from Queen Mary’s College, University of London.

First Solar also named Raffi Garabedian at the chief technology officer, replacing Dave Eaglesham, who announced his retirement on May 3.

Garabedian first joined First Solar in 2008 as director of Disruptive Technologies, and was promoted to vice president of Advanced Technologies in 2010.

Garabedian earned a BSEE degree from Rensselaer Polytechnic University and an MSEE degree from the University of California at Davis.
