The Sierra Club filed a federal lawsuit against the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, claiming that a loophole allowed coal-fired power plants in Oklahoma to exceed emissions standards under the Clean Air Act.
According to The Associated Press, the environmental group claims that plants like Oklahoma Gas & Electric’s (OG&E) 1,716 MW Muskogee plant are permitted to exceed emissions standards during certain phases of operations, such as start up, shutdown, or when performing maintenance on a malfunctioning plant.
OG&E said in the article that it would follow whatever process the EPA approves.
