The Turkish government signed a $20 billion agreement with a consortium from Candu Energy and Turkey's state-owned power company, EUAS, to build the second nuclear power plant in Turkey, according to Turkish news agency Anatolia. The announcement was made during the World Energy Leaders' Summit in Istanbul, Turkey.

Candu Energy is an Ontario-based full-service nuclear technology company providing nuclear power reactors and nuclear products and services to customers worldwide.

"Canada's Candu firm will sign a letter of intent with EUAS... After six months time, we will see if we can agree or not," Turkey Energy Minister Taner Yildiz was quoted as saying by Anatolia. “This is a serious proposal."

EUAS and Candu said the start of the project has not been decided, but predicted they would be able to begin the project within one year, the article said.
