Exelon Corp. (NYSE: EXC) said equipment upgrades, safety inspections, and plant improvements are being implemented at Unit 1 of the two-unit, 2,300 MW Braidwood Generating Station in Illinois during its latest refueling and maintenance outage. More than 13,000 tasks will be performed during the outage, the unit’s 16th shutdown.

Exelon said one of the major projects is the replacement of the Unit 1 “plant process computer” with a system that will add a layer of safety and redundancy and provide operators with improved visuals and plant monitoring capability. The plant process computer provides data to operators in the station’s control room as they assess plant conditions.
