Combined-cycle natural gas-fired power plant begins operations

Apr 30, 2012

The Tennessee Valley Authority (TVA) said the 880 MW natural gas-fired John Sevier Combined Cycle Plant near Rogersville, Tenn., began commercial operation on April 30. The plant entered service a month ahead of schedule and about $30 million under budget.

"During start-up and testing the plant proved consistent and reliable in its electricity production, meaning it is going to be a dependable addition to our generating fleet," said Bob Dalrymple, vice president of TVA's Gas Generation fleet.

The new combined-cycle plant is located next to the John Sevier coal-fired plant, where two of the four units will be retired and two units idled at the end of this year.
