Combined-cycle gas-fired plant in the works in Maryland

The Maryland Public Service Commission chose Competitive Power Ventures Inc.’s (CPV) St. Charles Energy Center as the site for a new combined-cycle natural gas-fired power plant.

The plant is expected to produce 661 MW of capacity. It is expected to reduce emissions of sulphur, nitrogen oxides and carbon dioxide by 65 to 99 percent.

Regulators also directed Baltimore Gas and Electric Co., Potomac Electric Power Co. and Delmarva Power & Light Co. to enter into a Contract for Differences with CPV Maryland LLC. They set a commercial operation date for June 1, 2015.
