The Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection approved the installation of emissions controls at Edison Mission Energy’s 1,884 MW Homer City coal-fired power plant, according to the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette. The project is expected to cost $725 million. The plant is operated by EME and owned by GE (NYSE: GE).
The new controls are expected to reduce annual emissions of sulfur dioxides (SO2) by 84 percent, mercury by 90 percent and soot by 57 percent, according to the article.
