Ontario Power Generation on Feb. 7 shut down Unit 8 at the 3,100 MW Pickering nuclear power plant for a planned maintenance outage.
During the outage, crews will work on the moderator and heat transport system, turbines and service water systems. They will also conduct routine inspections on a number of fuel channels and other key components. In total, crews will perform 20,000 tasks and inspect critical components.
This outage, which is coordinated with the Independent Electricity System Operator, is expected to be completed by mid-spring.
All other Pickering units are operating at or near full power.
