Polish utility Polska Grupa Energetyczna (PGE) said it plans to build two nuclear power plants by 2029, according to World Nuclear News.

The state-owned utility said it plans to invest over 330 billion zloty ($103 billion) between 2012 and 2035 with plans to raise its generating capacity from the current 13.1 GW to 15.8 GWe by 2020 and to 21.3 GWe by 2035. As part of that plan, PGE wants to generate about 36 percent of its electricity using nuclear power. To achieve that, PGE plans to build two nuclear power plants in Poland, each with a capacity of some 3000 MWe. Currently, PGE generates about 70 percent of its power from lignite, according to WNN.

In September 2011, Fluor Corp. (NYSE: FLR) signed a memorandum of understanding with GE Hitachi Nuclear Energy (GEH) as GEH's engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) partner to pursue nuclear new-build projects in Poland.

PGE is expected to complete its vendor selection in mid-2013. The first reactor of the initial plant is scheduled to be in commercial operation by 2023.
