The 1,136 MW Byron Generating Station Unit 2 in Illinois began producing electricity Feb. 7 after an insulator failure forced the unit to shut down.
The unit came offline Jan. 30 when power to an insulator in the facility’s switchyard failed and plant owner Exelon Corp. (NYSE: EXC) declared an unusual event. The insulator has since been repaired.
The 1,164 MW Unit 1 continued to operate at full power throughout the shut down.
