ABB (NYSE: ABB) said it has won an order from Hydro One Networks Inc., the power transmission and distribution utility of the Canadian province of Ontario, to supply an indoor gas-insulated switchgear substation, an outdoor switchyard with air-insulated switchgear and associated transmission infrastructure.

ABB’s scope of supply includes 115 kV gas-insulated and air-insulated switchgear, surge arresters, transformers, and cables. As part of the turnkey contract, ABB is responsible for the system studies, design, engineering, supply and installation of the substations, including civil works.

The new substations will replace an existing installation built in the 1950s and will connect the existing 550 MW Portlands Energy Center natural gas-fired power plant.

The project is scheduled for completion by 2013.
