Oklahoma Gas and Electric (OG&E) and Oklahoma State University jointly announced a 20-year power purchase agreement to provide wind power to the Stillwater campus pending approval from the Oklahoma Corporation Commission.
OG&E will contract with NextEra Energy (NYSE: NEE) to build the 60 MW Blackwell Wind Farm to support the OSU agreement. NextEra acquired the community wind development model project from OwnEnergy in November 2011 and the deal was closed on Dec. 7. The project is expected to be built by the end of 2012.
As a result of this agreement, OSU plans to phase out the university's existing 62-year-old on-campus cogeneration facility and construct a new boiler/chiller plant.
