The Canadian Nuclear Safety Commission (CNSC) said Bruce Power can begin to load fuel into the 750 MW Bruce A Unit 1 and progress with remaining return-to-service activities.

CNSC staff said it reviewed dozens of submissions from Bruce Power and conducted many inspections at the facility that were verified for compliance with the license conditions, which were established during the license renewal hearings in October 2009. Based on these reviews, it was concluded that Bruce Power has met all of the conditions related to loading fuel for Unit 1.

CNSC approval is still required to remove the shutdown guarantees and restart the reactor.
