Alstom has been awarded a contract worth $150 million over the next several years by American Electric Power (NYSE: AEP) to upgrade the low pressure (LP) steam turbines across their 1,300 MW coal-fired power plant fleet. The fleet upgrade framework contract includes seven plants located in Ohio, Indiana and West Virginia.

Alstom will upgrade the LP steam turbines by implementing its rotating and stationary blade design technology. The upgrades will be performed over a period of several years, with the first unit being commissioned in 2013.
