The Los Angeles Department of Water and Power (LADWP) is repowering the 1,600 MW Haynes natural gas-fired power plant in Long Beach.

The project, which broke ground Sept. 29, will replace units 5 and 6 with six 100 MW quick-start turbines that will be cooled with dry-cooling towers instead of ocean water. The turbines are expected to deliver full power in 10 minutes compared to a day-and-a-half.
