TransAlta pres., CEO to retire; successor named

TransAlta Corp. (NYSE: TAC) President and Chief Executive Officer Steve Snyder is retiring effective January 1, 2012. Dawn Farrell, TransAlta's Chief Operating Officer, was named as his successor.

Snyder was president and CEO since joining the company in 1996. In 2010, Snyder was named Canadian Energy Person of the Year by the Energy Council of Canada.

Farrell has more than 25 years of experience in the electric energy industry, holding roles at TransAlta and BC Hydro. Prior to her current position, Farrell was executive vice president, Commercial Operations and Development at TransAlta from 2007 to 2009.
