The Pakistan government will enact an energy efficiency framework law this year aimed at achieving an annual energy savings of up to 10 per cent.
The Planning Commission said that there are dramatic gains, possibly up to 18 per cent, in supply that can be realised through energy efficiency.
According to the Planning Commission, the power sector suffers heavy losses in generation, distribution issues, and mismanagement.
Officials said that distribution issues caused a reported 20 per cent power loss from Pakistan Electricity Power Company (PEPCO), with average technical loss standing at 8 per cent and loss due to mismanagement and theft at 12 per cent.
It has been estimated that capacity loss because of mismanagement of generation amounts to 1500 MW.
The Planning Commission aims for an energy efficiency law to be enacted this year.
