Chile's environmental commission in Valparaiso has rejected the construction of a new thermoelectric plant in the oversupplied area of Puchuncaví-Ventanas, NoticiasFinancieras reports.
The commission concluded that the Rio Corrientes project, which is linked to the investment fund Southern Cross, "didn't tackle the errors, omissions or inaccuracies observed during the long evaluation process, which started in 2008.
“Neither did it abide by the environmental guidelines in place," the report added.
The commission also said the project did not follow the mitigation, reparation and compensation measures established by law.
