Abengoa to build novel hybrid power plant in Mexico

Spanish engineering group Abengoa is to build a new solar/gas hybrid power plant in Sonora, Mexico, which will have a combined capacity of 476 MW, according to Reuters.

The project has been financed by the World Bank with around $50m, according to a spokesperson for the company cited by the news agency.

The turnkey project is expected to enter operation within 22 months and will be delivered to Commission Federal de Electricidad (CFE).

Abengoa will carry out the engineering, design and start-up of the innovative Agua Prieta II concentrating solar power (CSP) plant totaling 12 MW.

The second phase will be completed with the addition of a natural gas fired combined-cycle plant capable of producing up to 464.4 MW, Reuters reports.
