Black and Veatch to work on Vietnam coal-fired power plant

PetroVietnam Technical Services Corp. (PTSC) has selected Black & Veatch to provide project management and design services for the planned 1,200 MW Long Phu 1 coal-fired power plant in Vietnam. The plant will use supercritical technology and will also include wet scrubbers and electrostatic precipitators for air emissions controls.

The facility will consist of two, 600 MW units. It is the first of three planned power plants at the Long Phu Power Center. When completed, the center will have a combined capacity of 4,400 MW.

PTSC is the engineering, procurement and construction contractor for the project and is a member of the Vietnam Oil & Gas Group (PetroVietnam), the project owner. PetroVietnam Power, also a member of PetroVietnam, will operate the plant and deliver electricity to the Vietnamgrid system.

The two-unit Long Phu 1units are scheduled to enter service in 2014.

The Vietnamese Government has announced plans to build 90 coal-fired power plants by the year 2025. These facilities will have a combined capacity of 106,000 MW and represent an investment of US $83 billion.
