Cape Wind can begin construction

A construction and operations plan for the 468 MW Cape Wind Energy Project has been approved by federal officials, giving the green light for construction to begin as early as this fall.

Approval comes from the Department of the Interior and the Bureau of Ocean Energy Management, Regulation and Enforcement (BOEMRE).

As part of its evaluation, the bureau conducted an environmental assessment under the National Environmental Policy Act to determine whether any significant impacts had been overlooked in a 2009 Environmental Impact Statement, among other assessments. The bureau concluded that all impacts had been properly examined. The bureau issued a Record of Decision, detailing the terms and conditions that Cape Wind Associates must follow in addition to those established in an earlier lease agreement.
