GE has signed a contract to supply a 4.1-113 wind turbine and associated services to Göteborg Energi for installation in the harbor in Gothenburg, Sweden. The turbine is expected to be installed in the second half of 2011.
The direct-drive technology is made to provide a design with built-in redundancy and partial operation for major components and is designed to eliminate gearbox parts, lower operating expenses, and rely on a modular approach to maximize in-situ repair and reduce the need for large repair vessels.
