Consumers Energy has signed a construction deal for the $250 million, 100.8 MW Lake Winds Energy Park in Michigan.
White Construction Inc. will provide plant engineering, procurement and construction services for the plant that will use 56 Vestas wind turbines. The plant is expected to begin commercial operations in late 2012.
Consumers Energy also signed GE-Prolec Transformers Inc., to provide the transformer equipment for a new substation serving Lake Winds Energy Park.
The contracts are subject to approval by state regulators. The utility has filed with the Michigan Public Service Commission for approval of the two construction deals, and the wind farm also requires a special land use permit before construction can proceed.
The Michigan Public Service Commission also approved two power purchase agreements on November 19 for Consumers Energy Co. to buy 40.9 MW of output from two wind farms, including 28.6 MW of output from the Heritage Garden Wind Farm I and 12.3 MW from the Heritage Stoney Corners Wind Farm II. Heritage Sustainable Energy is developing both wind projects.
