
Foster Wheeler has been awarded a contract to design and deliver equipment for the proposed 100 MW Shams-1 solar power plant at Madinat Zayed, which is near Abu Dhabi in the United Arab Emirates.
The equipment for the world's largest concentrated solar thermal power plant will be delivered during the third quarter of next year. Foster Wheeler has received approvals to proceed with the project immediately. The Shams-1 project is being jointly developed by Total, Abu Dhabi Future Energy Company (widely known as Masdar) and Abengoa of Spain Masdar holds a majority stake of 60 per cent in the $600m venture.
Total and Abengoa will each own 20 per cent of the plant, which will feature 768 parabolic mirrors extending over a 2.5 square kilometres area.
