GDF-Suez to invest in Chile and Peru

3 August 2010 - French power giant GDF-Suez plans to make a significant investment in a series of energy projects in Chile and Peru.

The company's president, Gerard Mestrallet, recently visited Chile to formally open a new regasification terminal. Chile’s president Sebastian Pinera was present at the ceremony.

According to a statement issued by the company, the company invested EUR390m (US$503m) in the project.

Following his meeting with the Chilean president, Mestrallet met up with Peruvian president Alan García.

GDF-Suez is expected to invest around EUR470m to finance energy projects over the next four years.

According to America Economia, GDF Suez won a 66 MW power supply contract during an auction set by the Peruvian government. This could represent around EUR1.4bn in terms of profit for the company.
