13 August 2010 - The Caconde plant, located in Sao Paulo and owned by AES Corporation, will be the first hydropower facility in Brazil to have GE’s advanced Mark VIe control system installed.

The Mark VIe Hydro Integrated Control System will control two 50 MW hydro turbine-generators and all the plant auxiliary equipment.

GE Energy's Control Solutions business in Latin America will be in charge of the project. Mark VIe allows hydropower plants to reduce their costs by utilizing sophisticated digital means to control their systems.

GE announced inMay that it would set up a research centre in Brazil, the fourth such centre outside the US. The other three facilities are located in India, China and Germany.
