SWEPCO rehearing

06/01/2010

1 June 2010-- Southwestern Electric Power Co. (SWEPCO), a unit of American Electric Power, filed a petition for rehearing at the Arkansas Supreme Court after the court’s May 13 decision to reverse the approval of the Arkansas Public Service Commission for the 600 MW John Turk coal-fired power plant.

The petition asks for a rehearing of SWEPCO’s motion to dismiss the case, which was denied as part of the court’s recent ruling.

SWEPCO, which owns 73 percent, or 440 MW, of the plant, is continuing construction on the $1.7 billion project. As of March 31, approximately $959 million had been spent on the Turk plant, including $742 million by SWEPCO. The overall project is about 33 percent complete, with construction of the plant itself at 22 percent completion.

The Louisiana Public Service Commission and Public Utility Commission of Texas approved construction of the plant in and the company began construction after receiving an air permit from the Arkansas Department of Environmental Quality in November 2008.
