30 April 2010 - Mississippi Power decided to not build a 582 MW lignite coal-fired power plant. The company made the decision after state regulators voted 2-1 in favor of the proposal, but with a lengthy set of conditions.
The Mississippi Public Service Commission ruled the integrated gasification combined cycle (IGCC) plant must be built at a cost of no more than $2.4 billion.
Mississippi Power says the conditions made it impossible to finance or construct the plant.
