PG&E to buy planned 246 MW wind project

3 December 2009-- Pacific Gas and Electric Co. contracted with Iberdrola Renewables Inc. to buy and operate a 246 MW wind energy plant to be built in California. The Manzana Wind Project is expected to cost just over $900 million, including payments to Iberdrola to develop and build the plant in addition to other costs.

The project could begin producing power by 2011 pending approvals from the California Public Utilities Commission.

Manzana would be one the first wind projects owned by PG&E. It follows a proposal by the utility to develop and own 250 MW of solar photovoltaic power.
