18 December 2009-- The California Public Utilities Commission approved the construction of the final segments of Southern California Edison's 250-mile Tehachapi transmission project.
Construction is expected to begin in 2010 on the last 173 miles of the $2 billion project. The line is expected to send 4,500 MW of electricity to SCE's customers and is scheduled for completion in 2014.
The commission approved the first three segments of the line in 2007, which will deliver 700 MW once construction is finished.
