24 November 2009-- Pacific Gas & Electric Co. will ask the Nuclear Regulatory Commission to extend the operating license of two nuclear-powered units at the 1,100 MW Diablo Canyon Power Plant for another 20 years past their expiration dates.

The license for Unit 1 is not set to expire until 2024. Unit 2's license doesn't expire until 2025. The license extension process is expected to take several years. The plant has two Westinghouse-designed four-loop pressurized-water nuclear reactors.
