19 Noevmber 2009 - MWH, a US-based provider of environmental engineering, construction and strategic consulting services, and its joint venture partner Energoprojekt of Russia have completed the $350m Tekeze hydropower project in northern Ethiopia.

The government-funded project is expected to provide a reliable, renewable source of power for the country that has been forced to impose regular blackouts for its 80m residents due to energy shortages.

The Tekeze hydropower project is expected to provide 300 MW of clean, renewable power, adding 40 per cent production to the current 683 MW generated for the entire country.
