First Wind begins phase two of wind farm

23 November 2009-- First Wind broke ground on a 25.5 MW expansion of its Stetson Wind project in Maine. The expansion will add 17 GE 1.5 MW wind turbines, bringing the total number to 55. The expansion will bring the total installed capacity of the wind farm to 82.5 MW.

The first phase began operations in January. In March, First Wind received approval from the Maine Land Use Regulation Commission (LURC) to build the second phase of the project. Harvard University said it will purchase half of the power generated by the Stetson Wind II facility as well as the associated Renewable Energy Certificates (RECs).
