25 November 2009-- American Municipal Power-Ohio (AMP-Ohio) is canceling plans to build a 1,000 MW coal-fired plant in Ohio called the American Municipal Power Generating Station (AMPGS).

The company said it based its decision on rising prices that have put the plant's cost near $4 billion, or $4,000 a kW. The city of Cleveland had agreed to buy 185 MW of power from the proposed power plant. AMP's board of trustees said they might look into building a plant that uses a different fuel source but no decision has been made.
