27 October 2009 - Czech state-controlled power company CEZ has bid for a 21 per cent stake in German energy distributor ENSO Energie Sachsen Ost AG from the stake's owner Vattenfall Europe.
German power distributor GESO Beteiligungs und Beratungs AG is the majority shareholder in ENSO, which distributes electricity, natural gas and heat. CEZ bid for full ownership of GESO on 23 October.
Both companies are in the German region of Saxony, which directly borders the Czech Republic and areas in which CEZ is active in power production, distribution and mining.
CEZ holds a 50 per cent stake in German coal mining company MIBRAG, which is also in Saxony.
