17 September 2009-- Day & Zimmermann was awarded a $50 million contract to provide services towards the completion of unit 2 in the Tennessee Valley Authority's 2,540 MW Watts Bar nuclear power plant.
Day & Zimmermann will provide maintenance, modification and refurbishment services on Unit 2. Units 1 and 2 are Westinghouse-designed pressurized water reactors.
TVA started construction of both units in the mid-1970s. The company suspended construction in 1985, but started building unit 1 again in 1990. It has been online for 10 years.
Watts Bar 2 was 80 percent complete when construction was suspended. TVA's board of directors approved $2.5 billion to finish it by 2012.
