30 September 2009-- The Ontario Power Authority said it will sign a contract with TransCanada Corp to design, build and operate a 900 MW natural gas-fired generating station in Oakville. The plant will replace the 1,150 MW coal-fired Lakeview generating station, which closed in 2005.

TransCanada said the plant could cost $1.2 billion (US$1.12 billion) and expects it to be up and running by December 2013. As part of the deal, the Ontario Ministry of the Environment required that emission standards for the plant be 70 percent more strict than what is required for other plants.
