26 August 2009-- Plant Washington, an 850 MW supercritical coal-fired power plant, has received draft permits from the Georgia Environmental Protection Division (EPD). It is expected to cost $2.1 billion.
POWER4Georgians, a consortium of electric co-ops in the state, filed the permit applications in January 2008. The EPD issued four primary permits for the plant that outline the amount of air and water pollution the plant can emit, put limits on the amount of water the plant can take from the ground and describe how the plant will deal with solid waste.
After the public comment meeting, the EPD will decide whether to issue a final permit.
