17 March 2008 - German energy group E.ON said it is planning to build a 25 MW biomass power station in south Yorkshire, England, UK.

E.ON said it has applied for planning permission to construct the £60m ($121m) plant at Blackburn Meadows in Sheffield.

The company said the station would use carbon neutral fuels, including recycled wood and specially grown crops such as willow and elephant grass, to produce enough power for about 40 000 homes and to eliminate about 80 000 tonnes of carbon dioxide emissions annually.

E.ON is also looking at opportunities to supply heat to neighbouring commercial and industrial establishments, further boosting the project's green status and efficiency.
