12 July 2007 -- AmerenUE, a utility operating company of Ameren Corp., said it plans to spend $500 million over three years to install environmental controls on existing plants. The company plans to spend another $500 million to improve reliability and upgrade delivery systems.

The three-year initiative involves a commitment over and above the $500 million per year the company has been spending on efforts to upgrade and maintain the system. Most of the new spending on environmental controls will go toward installing scrubbers at its Sioux Plant.
