Invenergy Wind LLC announced that it has contracts with General Electric Co. (GE) to purchase an additional 600 MW of wind turbines for use in projects slated for construction in 2008. Along with Invenergy's previously announced purchase of 600 MW for 2007 from GE, this provides 1,200 MW of wind turbines for Invenergy's 2007 and 2008 build program in North America. These turbines are slated for Invenergy's projects in the United States and Canada.
Over the past three years, Invenergy has developed and constructed more than 680 MW of wind energy facilities with capital costs of $1.1 billion. This includes projects in Colorado, Montana, Idaho, Tennessee, Iowa, Oklahoma, Texas and Invenergy's first European project, the 50 MW Tymien project in Poland which went into commercial operation in 2006.
Wind energy projects completed by Invenergy in North America and Europe to date are expected to generate more than two billion kilowatt hours of electricity per year with clean and renewable generation technology.
