17 May 2006 - E.ON plans to build a 'clean coal' power plant in the UK, which will use carbon sequestration technology to bury emissions from the plant in offshore former gas or oil fields.
According to reports in British newspapers, E.ON will spend £1bn ($1.9bn) on building the plant near Killingholme in Lincolnshire. If the project goes ahead smoothly, it will be in operation by 2011.
The plan follows RWE's announcement in April that it is to spend £700m to create a 'clean coal' plant on the bank of the River Thames in Tilbury, UK.
In 2005, E.ON returned a 900 MW natural gas fired power station at a site near Killingholme back to full service after it was mothballed in 2003.
