
15 February 2006 - Voith Siemens Power Generation is to supply equipment to a new hydropower project in Peru after it was awarded a €25m ($29.8m) contract from the plant's developer, Peruvian Cementos Lima.
Voith Siemens will supply The El Platanal plant with two vertical Pelton turbines, each with an output of 110 MW and operating with a net head of over 600 metres. Generators (120 MVA output), automation system, governors and excitation are also to be supplied by Voith Siemens. Siemens, as a partner in this project, will supply electrical equipment and mechanical auxiliary systems.
The hydro power station is located in the Peruvian Andean foothills and is fed by the Cañete River. Besides generating energy the plant will be used for the irrigation of 27 000 hectares of uncultivated land of the pampas of Concón-Topará between Cañete and Chincha Alta on the south coast. Commissioning is scheduled for May 2008.
