22 September 2005 - GE Energy is to increase the output of PPL's Susquehanna nuclear power plant by approximately 200 MW, after it was awarded a contract worth in excess of $10m.

GE's nuclear business will support the extended power uprate at two of the boiling water reactor plant's units.

The uprate work will be carried out in phases during several refuelling outages. GE will perform the engineering analysis and the generator work. A combination of GE, PPL and other subcontractors hired by PPL will perform the balance of plant tasks.

Andy White, president and CEO of GE's nuclear business said that the company was in discussions over similar upgrades with owners of other US reactor units.
