19 July 2005 - The European Commission has launched a four year campaign to raise awareness on sustainable energy with the message that intelligent energy production and consumption will change the European energy landscape forever.

Energy Commissioner, Andris Piebalgs, said at the launch: "This campaign will promote better living standards, stimulate economic growth, create jobs and enhance the competitive position of European industry on world markets."

The campaign begins with the intention of helping the member states meet their energy policy aims. The EU has targeted increasing the share of renewable energy to 12 per cent by 2010 and lowering energy consumption by 20 per cent.
