20 June 2005 - Areva Transmission and Distribution has been awarded a €12m ($14.7m) contract by EDF Energy to supply gas insulated switchgear in the UK.

Areva will replace and upgrade existing equipment at the Lodge Road substation, located in London. Under the contract the company will build, deliver, install and commission 26 bays of its F35 type 145 kV gas insulated switchgear and key ancillary equipment.

The two companies have worked together on similar projects several times over the last few years. Stephen Burgin, president of Areva in the UK, said: "Working together in this way has enabled us to develop a true understanding of the customer's specific needs."
