29 December 2004 - Endesa has acquired 88 per cent of the interconnection capacity between France and Italy that was put up for auction by the French electricity system operator (RTE).

RTE recently put out to tender half of the interconnection capacity between France and Italy, which amounts to 547 MW. Endesa was awarded 497 MW of the total in a competitive round of bidding in which 25 international companies submitted bids that averaged €19.09/MWh. Endesa obtained the capacity despite bidding lower than the average tender.

It subsequently announced that the profile of the capacity was an important step in its European strategy. Having obtained more daytime than night time capacity, Endesa hope that this will help energy management in cross border markets and give extra value to its presence in France and Italy.
