China adopts measures to resolve power shortage problem

23 December 2003 - China's State Council has adopted an action plan to help resolve supply bottlenecks that have caused a power shortage in most parts of the country.

The plan adopted by the State Council, China's cabinet, includes the fast-tracking of power stations already under construction. However, the accelerated construction should not be at the expense of quality.

Preferential pricing policies adopted by local governments are to be abolished and restrictions on power generation when supply exceeds demand should be adjusted, it said. Consumers are to be given priority for power supplies ahead of industry.
