29 January 2003 - Korea's HSD Engine Co. said Wednesday it has won an order from the Greek Electricity Office, its first overseas order for a power plant since its establishment in 2000.
The ship-engine maker won the order for the Kos diesel power plant with production capacity of 16.5 MW in an international open tender of the Greek Electricity Office. The order is worth €8m ($8.7m).
The plant will be built on holiday island of Kos Island, in the Mediterranean Sea and will be equipped with a low speed 500-ton engine which is 14 meters long and 10 meters high. HSD will export the plant by the turn-key system. "We had beaten strong contenders like Germany and Japan. This win means a lot to us as we actually proved our competitiveness in terms of technology and price," said a HSD official
